Digital Volume Analysis

Overview

Digital Volume Analysis

Digital Volume analysis or Digital Volume Correlation calculates displacements in a complete 3D volume. Over one million displacement vectors per volume can be analyzed. A 3D inspection 3D inspection software imports images from X-Ray CT or optical tomography set-ups and can quantify defects or discontinuities before they become visible in the volume image. In the software, a feature called " Measure volume" is used to analyze the displacement and deformation in the derived model concerning the reference model. Digital Volume analysis requires volume images containing a random pattern; local changes in contrast due to changes in density or voids in the case of X-ray CT scans. Digital Volume analysis has applications that include biological research, metal powders, concrete structures, and composites, and geological deformation in the earth crust.
